Terms & Conditions

For the purposes of these booking conditions "Past Endeavours" is abbreviated to "PE". ‘Tour’ refers to Conducted and personal tours unless otherwise stated. The term ‘you’ refers to the person making the booking, and who has signed the form where indicated. ‘Party’ means those persons listed on the booking form (or attachment) on behalf of whom you are making the booking.

How to Book

Please telephone first to discuss your wishes and to obtain a quotation based on your chosen option(s). Please complete the appropriate section of the booking form and return the form to PE. Please contact PE should you require clarification on any aspect of the tours offered. For conducted tours in particular, please telephone PE for up to date availability as tours are limited to a maximum of 6 persons. Telephone reservations will be usually be held for three working days. No contract shall exist between PE and you until the signed booking form has been received, and the booking is confirmed in writing by PE (usually by return of post).

Payment

A 20% deposit is payable on booking. Payments can be made either by cash or by cheque. Cash should be sent by recorded Delivery. Cheques/Postal Orders should be made payable to "Past Endeavours Client Trust A/C".  This ensures that your money is safe and cannot be accessed until after the tour is completed. This is for your protection in the event that “Past Endeavours” fails to satisfy its contractual obligation. The outstanding balance is payable not less than 60 days before your tour departs ( unless you have booked less than 60 days before departure in which case the entire cost is payable immediately ). If you would like a single hotel room there is an additional £50 supplement. If you are happy to share a hotel room with another tour member (of the same sex) then there is no extra charge - subject to such an arrangement being possible.

Cancellations

In the unlikely event of PE having to cancel a tour for whatever reason (including a particular tour being under-subscribed – not applicable to private tours ), you will be informed as soon as possible. You will be given the choice of accepting an alternative tour.
If that is not acceptable then a full refund of monies already paid will be made. Should it be necessary for either you or any member of your party to have to cancel a booking, then the person making the booking must notify PE in writing. The cancellation will be effective from the date the written communication is received by PE.

The following scale of cancellation charges shall apply (relative to date of departure):

More than 60  days before departure – Nothing

60 – 45 days before departure - 30% of tour price

45 - 30 days before departure – 50% of tour price

30 – 14 days before departure – 75% of tour price

Less than 14 days before departure - 100% of tour price

Force Majeure

PE accepts full responsibility for ensuring that the services it contracts to provide are to a reasonable standard, subject to the provisions of ‘force majeure’. This provision means that PE does not accept liability for any damage, losses or additional expenses suffered by you or any member of your group, as the result of causes beyond the control of PE such as war, riot, accident, civil strife, industrial dispute(s), crime, natural or nuclear disaster, disease, Acts of God, adverse weather conditions or similar occurrences. PE will however do its utmost to minimise additional expenses in the unlikely event of such occurrences.

Travel Insurance

Clients must be insured for travel to France and/or Belgium, especially in respect of medical cover, as a condition of travelling with “Past Endeavours” . This is not included in the tour price as it is appreciated that you may already have such insurance, or may wish to make your own insurance arrangements by shopping around for the best rate.

Passports

Travellers must be in possession of a valid full passport and any visa(s) they may require to enter any of the countries to be visited. This is the traveller’s responsibility, but PE will be happy to assist on request.

Tour Party Size

Unless otherwise stated, tour parties (excluding myself and occasional helper) will be limited to a maximum of 6 persons.

Transport

As parties are deliberately kept small we are able to use a people carrier. Larger parties will use either a mini-bus or a small luxury coach depending on numbers. Smoking is not permitted in the vehicles. Please note: Some hotels require advance notice of a smoking room.

Please exercise great care when accessing/exiting the vehicle. Seat belts should be worn at all times. Please ask for help if in any doubt.

Please keep luggage as compact as possible as space is limited ( small tours only ).

Pick-up points

Unless otherwise stated, the meeting point for all tours is Maidstone Services J8 M20 eastbound.

Clients living in the Essex/Kent area can often be picked up en-route. A door-to-door service is sometimes possible. Please ask when booking.

Accommodation

PE uses hotels (and Guest Houses for tours to the Somme or Ypres battlefield) situated either on or very close to the battlefield, such as in or close to the principal battlefield towns of Albert, Ypres, Arromanches, rather than the larger, more impersonal hotels used by some other tour operators. The hotels are one and two star family-owned establishments (with the exception of the three-star Novotel Hotel situated close to the Menin Gate in the centre of Ypres and the 4* Ariane ) offering basic accommodation with most rooms having en-suite facilities and colour TV. You will not be expected to share accommodation with persons not in your personal group unless you are travelling on your own and have elected to share a room with another person of the same sex (see details under heading ‘Payment’).

Meals on tours

The tour cost includes all arranged meals whilst in France/Belgium. Wine and coffee with the evening meal are included in the tour cost (but not additional drinks such as beer/spirits etc.).

Tour Itineraries

You will have discussed your itinerary with PE - Please note that the tour itinerary is flexible and may be subject to change and/or variation . It is sometimes necessary to make minor changes to accommodate factors beyond the control of "Past Endeavours", or to accommodate the particular wishes (within reason) of members of the tour group. Most often we are able to include additional sites of interest to those shown in the itinerary as time permits. Personal bespoke tours are of course not covered by the above caveats.
