Normandy and Dunkirk Tours

 

 

 

D-Day itinerary for a three day tour:

 

Depart Shuttle 0758hrs, arrive France 0930 local. Drive to Normandy region to arrive on site about 1400hrs with suitable comfort stops en route.

 

 
DAY ONE

 

·        Merville Battery – overview of Operation “OVERLORD”, role of 6th Airborne/Lt.Col. Otway

 

 

 

 

·        Pegasus Bridge – Maj. John Howard and visit to Museum

 

 

 

·        Sword Beach – Kieffer memorial and Riva Bella

 

Return to accommodation – book in and evening meal.

 

 

DAY TWO

 

·        Continue British beaches – Juno Beach, Bill Dunn AVRE.

 

 

·        Gold Beach – Stan Hollis VC.

·        Arromanches – Mulberry harbour & 360 cinema/museum

·        Lunch in Arromanches

·        OMAHA Beach – Dog Green 1 & the Vierville Draw

·        US Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer

 

 

·        UTAH Beach – Roosevelt memorial & museum

·        La Cambe German Cemetery

 

Return to accommodation and evening meal

 

 

DAY THREE

 

·        Pointe Du Hoc – US Rangers assault

 

 

·        St.MÀre glise – Private John Steele

 

 

 

·        Lunch/coffee in St. MÀre glise

·        Ranville CWGC - tribute to the Paras

 

 

 

Depart Normandy about 1400 hrs, return to Shuttle ( with stops ) for about 1830, return on 2000 shuttle, back in UK for 1940 local time.

 

( as with all “Past Endeavours”  tours this itinerary is not set in stone and can be altered to suit the individual customer’s requirements )

 

Itinerary for Fall of France Tour – Day trip

 

Leave Shuttle at 08.28 arrive France 11.00hrs local. Drive to Ypres for start of tour.

 

·        Arrive Ypres and visit Bedford House CWGC, casualty clearing station and visit graves of those lost in the retreat.

·        Arrive at Mont Cassel, site of Lord Gort’s last HQ and discuss the defence of this most important `halt’ by the 4/Oxf. & Bucks and the 2/Glosters.

 

 

·        Lunch in Cassel

·        Visit the Hardifort Bunker at Peckel crossroads, site of a heroic action by Lt Cresswell MC and men of 1 platoon `A’ Coy. the 2nd Glosters.

 

·        Retrace the final steps of the men involved in the massacre at Esquelbecq and visit the recently restored memorial site

 

 

 

·        Visit the CWGC at Esquelbecq, their final resting place.

 

 

 

·        visit the site of the Bergues-Veurnes canal `stop’ line, and see the site of action of Capt. Ervine-Andrews VC of the 1/East Lancs.

·        Hear the tale of the defence of the perimeter by the 2/Coldstream Guards and the story of Lt. Jimmy Langley.

·        Visit the evacuation beaches at Bray Dunes

 

 

·        See the famous Mole in Dunkirk harbour and visit the magnificent Dunkirk Memorial. Time for reflection.

 

Leave Dunkirk approx 1900hrs, arrive Shuttle for the 20.28 departure, arrive back in the UK 2010hrs.

 

( this tour can be spread over two days with additional visits to other WW2 sites such as the V1 bunker at Eperleques, the French Resistance memorial in Arras or La Coupole, the V2 launch site and museum at Wizernes )
